Our Story

The Hope Mansell School House was built for the sum of £400 in 1868 and the roll quickly grew to 40 pupils and then to 90. The school annexe was constructed as an additional classroom in 1932 and was used until 1953 when around a dozen children were being educated.

The Hall and land were made available in trust to the local residents by the Hereford Diocese as a place of recreation, learning and “with the object of improving the conditions of life for the inhabitants". From the early days to the present the Village Hall has often been the hub of village life, ranging from the Annual Summer Fete, Quiz nights, coffee mornings, national celebrations and festive gatherings.

The Hall has been maintained by volunteers and trustees throughout its existence and in 2018 received a generous improvement grant from the National Lottery. The investment in a new kitchen and servery and a modern bathroom along with improved lighting, heating and acoustic baffles sit within a completely redecorated Hall while retaining many of the original features of the school classroom.

Today’s Trustees’ aim is to continue to improve the Hall facilities and to extend the number and range of events on offer. The Hall is available for private hire.
